The eThekwini Municipality has approved the acquisition of Erf 2256 and Erf 2420 in a move aimed at addressing stormwater infrastructure challenges and flooding in uMhlanga.
The decision was taken during a recent council meeting and received positive support from Ward 35 councillor Bradley Singh.
Councillor Singh thanked the municipality for the intervention. He said: “We would like to thank the municipality for this acquisition. By doing this, the homes on Herrwood Drive will not be flooded.”

In response, the city said: “To address flooding risks and drainage capacity constraints downstream of Herrwood Drive, Council approved the acquisition of Erf 2256 (7 Sandringham Court) in Ward 35. The site will accommodate a stormwater attenuation facility designed to manage peak rainfall flows.
“In addition, a 66m² sewer and drainage servitude will be registered over Erf 2420 (9 Sandringham Court). All land acquisition processes will proceed in accordance with applicable constitutional and statutory frameworks,” the city said.
