The Ramiah family of Caneside, Phoenix, faced a heartbreaking day as they laid Ricky ‘Morgan’ Ramiah to rest on Saturday, 28 September, while they continue to look for answers behind his gruesome murder.
The 43-year-old father, who worked as an e-hailing driver, was murdered on Thursday, 12 September. His charred remains were found in the boot of his burnt-out vehicle in Verulam.

He had left his home to do a pick up in the Verulam area when his Toyota Etios was discovered burning at Robert West Farm, Hillhead, in Verulam. Speaking to the Phoenix Tabloid, family spokesperson, Alice Govender, said: “It was with a heavy heart that the family of Ricky ‘Morgan’ Ramiah laid him to rest this past weekend.
“Funeral arrangements became a reality after DNA test results became available, confirming that it was Ricky. The family is still reeling from the heinous, senseless murder of a wonderful soul. Ricky was first and foremost a dedicated and committed family man. Speeches at his funeral attested to the wonderful bond that he had with his extended family.”
Govender said the family has been receiving support and is grateful “for the outpouring of love, kindness and help” extended towards them. She called on law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to book.
“The criminal case is still ongoing and the family is eager for the perpetrators of this terrible crime to be found, apprehended, and face the full force of the law. We appeal to the public to please come forward and share any information that may lead to the successful arrest and conviction of the perpetrators. We also want to appeal to the public to desist from spreading unwarranted rumours as to what may have led to the demise of Ricky Morgan Ramiah. This behaviour is painful to his wife and children, who are currently battling to come to terms with their loss of a father and a husband,” said Govender.
Reshma Ramiah said she wants justice for her husband’s brutal killing. “I have so many unanswered questions, I want to know what happened and why was this done to my husband. I want justice to prevail and the people that did this to face the full might of the law,” said Ramiah.
Ramiah’s funeral was held at the Cornerstone Family Church before proceeding to the Verulam Crematorium. He is survived by his wife, three children, and a host of family members who loved him dearly. A case of murder was opened following the incident and is currently being investigated by Verulam SAPS detectives.
