
The case of a Tongaat father accused of raping his five-year-old daughter has been transferred to the Phoenix Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit who have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Provincial SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, confirmed the incident and said a case was opened on Sunday at the Tongaat Police Station. She said: “We can confirm the incident that took place on 9 October at 9pm, where a five-year-old female was allegedly raped by a known suspect at her place of residence in Tongaat. The case was opened with Tongaat SAPS and the docket was transferred to Phoenix Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.” According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), spokesperson, Prem Balram, the suspect was caught red handed sexually assaulting his five-year-old daughter by his wife, at approximately 10.14pm on Sunday night.
“On arrival, the child’s 37- year-old mother informed Reaction Officers that she was asleep in her home when her intoxicated husband arrived. Her twin son and daughter were also in bed with her. She woke up and discovered her husband raping her daughter. The woman forced him off the child when he began assaulting her,” said Balram. He added: “The woman made several calls for assistance from the time of the incident, however received no help. She thereafter called an educator from her daughter’s school who contacted RUSA for assistance. A female RUSA member interviewed the child who confirmed that her father had sexually assaulted her.” The suspect fled the residence in an unknown direction. The mother and daughter were transported to the Tongaat SAPS to register a criminal case.
