Springing into action

Bright flowers, warmer weather and busier parks means spring has sprung.

For Tongaat resident, Alica Govender, and many others around the country, this season means more family fun outdoors and a time to pack away all heavy blankets and big jackets. Explaining her favourite part of Spring, Govender said her love for nature and how the beauty of it comes alive during this season makes her have a new perspective on life.

She said: “Spring is a season which is full of colour and the time to appreciate the morning dew settling on the new seedlings sprouting from the ground. We watch the beautiful butterflies and ladybugs become more active and bees working hard to make honey. Seeing nature come alive after months of ‘silence’ is completely breathtaking. The picturesque scenery of trees and plants that bloom new colours into our lives, make the season that more special.”

Govender said Spring seems to bring out the adventurous side in people including herself. “This season opens new opportunities to explore a lot more. I don’t intend on wasting it. My plan is to go on hikes, picnics and take walks with our beloved pets.”

Tevin Pillay, also a resident of Tongaat, said Spring is his favourite season and that he cannot wait to spend some time outdoors. “I know Spring is around the corner even before looking at the calendar because my allergies always act up but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the scent of fresh pollen. Having watery eyes and my face the size of a football is a small price to pay for the wonders Spring brings.”

Pillay said this Spring he is hoping to do a lot more outdoor activities. “I want to hike more and learn to swim. I also want to visit some of the province’s nature reserves. During winter, when we’re all sitting under blankets and next to the fire we think about all the fun things to do when the warmer months are back and I plan on taking full advantage,” he said.

The staff and management of the Tongaat and Verulam Tabloid would like to wish all their readers and advertisers a happy and prosperous Spring.
