Westville based non-profit organisation, Tiny Steps Care Team recently brought smiles to thousands of faces by reaching-out to deserving organisations and children’s care centres in Durban. The NPO distributed hearty soup to children housed at the care centres.
The Tiny Steps Care Team partnered with different corporate organisations to make their community work possible and were able to meet their target by supplying over 5000 litres of soup to needy children.
Tiny Steps Founder, Naadia Sheik-Hameed said that she was grateful to have been able to partner with different sponsors to make this possible especially during Mandela Month.
“Through the help of our sponsors; Tshebo Group of Companies, Chefs with Compassion, South African Chefs Association KZN. We were able to redistribute hearty soup to the less fortunate. In addition, we were able to treat children with over 700 pieces of chocolate cakes received from Chateaux Gateaux. We reached out to different facilities such as TB and HIV Clinic in Cato Manor, ILK Foundation in Chesterville, a soup kitchen in Sydenham, St Theresa’s Children’s Home. I am also grateful to WMO Food Bank truck which travelled to Clare Estate, Bonela and Overport. Thank you to the Honchos Musallah team who reached out to the homeless in the Durban CBD,” said Sheik-Hameed.
Sheik-Hameed said that they also held a bullying awareness programme to the boys housed at St Theresa’s Children’s Home through partnering with a social worker.
“Bullying is a serious problem in schools and in the society in general. I am so happy to have collaborated with Ria Love and Sharmilla Maharaj who is a private social worker from the South of Durban. After the talk, the day was made special by Pedro’s KZN who sponsored the meals, and also treats, colouring books and crayons from Tasmiyahs Enterprise. On behalf of the Tiny Steps Team we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the entire team and all stakeholders for their contributions towards making Mandela month programmes a huge success and allowing us to reach out to thousands in the spirit of ubuntu,” added Sheik-Hameed.
