The family of a Shastri Park couple is reeling from shock after the couple died in a horrific accident on the M42, directly opposite Flanders Mall, on Thursday night, 7 October.
Condolences have been pouring in to the family of Quentin Lorenzo Bugwandin, 23, and Seneshree Thambusami, 21 who were cremated on Saturday.
A family member, known to The Phoenix Tabloid, but who did not want to be named, said the families are lost for words and still in shock. “Quentin and Seneshree, who is known to us as Mikayla, were both wonderful, kind and caring people to everyone who knew them,” she said.
She added that Quentin, who is a former Solvista Secondary learner, was planning on getting married next year. “I watched Quentin grow up. He always had a love for cars. He was the first-born to his parents and having his father pass on in 2014 and then his mother in 2018, he had to grow up before his time. He was a very responsible brother to his younger siblings and always led by example. Quentin loved his family, both immediate and extended. He really lived his life to the fullest,” she said.
“Mikayla was her parents’ only child and we, as the family, are devastated. Having lost both, Quentin and Mikayla at once was a real nightmare,” she said.
She added that Quentin’s younger brother, who is 14 years old, is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and they are praying for his recovery. KZN VIP spokesperson, Gareth Naidoo, confirmed that a serious motor collision took place at approximately 10.45pm on Thursday night. “All emergency services were at the scene. A red VW collided with the rear of a heavy motor vehicle resulting in the death of two people in their twenties. They were declared deceased at the scene. A 14-year-old was treated by KZN VIP before being rushed to hospital for further medical care,” said Naidoo.
Naidoo added the cause of the accident is unknown at this stage, but alleged that the streetlights could have played a part in the collision “as the scene was covered in darkness”. Long-time friend of the engaged couple, Tahlia Bilasur, said the news was shocking as she spoke with the couple that afternoon. “I am in shock. I can’t believe what has happened. I spoke to them last night. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of Quentin and Seneshree during this time,” shared Bilasur.
High school friend of the late Quentin, Rene’ Shadel Munusamy, said she was shocked after getting the news about the couple’s untimely passing. “Quentin and Seneshree were both genuine souls. They were amazing people to everyone who knew them and it brings such heartache to know that they have passed on before their time. My deepest empathies and love go out to their families,” said Munusamy.
