Workers at a local factory along Bluebank Road, industrial area, downed tools this morning, 28 September.

Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes as the entrance to the road has been closed off.

A National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) member told The Ladysmith Herald that the reason for the protests outside the factory was that they are seeking a higher wage increase. “We want a R10 an hour increase.”

Police and Public Safety are monitoring the protests at this stage.
