The ongoing illegal dumping of industrial and household waste on Funfair Road in Bayview has become an eye-sore and a massive problem that has been brought to the attention of law enforcement.
The illegally dumped business, factory, household and residential waste was reported to eThekwini law enforcer, Don Baijnath, who visited the dump-site on Monday morning. “I investigated and also spoke to the tenants from a few of the shops. “Quite a few companies in this area do manufacturing in clothing and it will be difficult to pinpoint who the dump belongs to, however, I have liaised with the relevant people and will be closely monitoring this area. Everyone is denying it, the place will be cleaned and monitored with cameras,” said Baijnath. While some of the tenants in the industrialised-residential area have took it upon themselves to clear up the verge of the narrow road, which is situated behind the Bayview Clinic and the Bayview Police Station, others have resorted to illegally dumping their dirt in the vicinity, after dark.
