Phoenix graduates and mentors of the IChoose Youth Leadership Values programme seen with facilitators

The Thrive Foundation in partnership with The Global Youth Initiative hosted the IChoose Youth Leadership Values programme as a community development project to find solutions to challenges faced by the young people of Phoenix.

The programme culminated with the graduation ceremony of 19 youths of which six graduated as mentors.

Certified Lifecoach and NLP practitioner, Mala James said the programme is groundbreaking and history in the making for Phoenix.

She said: “The first class of emerging leaders, with six new mentors is something to be celebrated. With a host of challenges faced by our youth, it’s imperative that we change our strategy to empower them in dealing with these challenges. They are challenged with the fear of failure, no confidence, a bleak future, bullying, gangsterism, lawless behaviour and violence in schools. Instead of telling them what not to do, we are teaching them values that will guide their actions and decisions for the future.”

James said the IChoose Youth Leadership Values programme will be targeting youth from different areas and communities. “The programme is opened to youths from 13 to 30 years old from all walks of life with the intention of establishing 16 values of life, equipping young people with a realisation of their true identity, purpose and potential to envision a future where they are positive leaders in their areas of influence. Leadership influence simply put is an ability to affect others and change their behaviour in a given direction,” she said.

James added that The Thrive Foundation is looking for likeminded partners who have a vision for change, rebuilding the community and raising a generation of new leadership, to partner with the organisation and change the narrative.
