Aimed to raise awareness for International Homeless Animal Day, the Durban and Coast SPCA is challenging animal lovers to brave their kennels for a night at their Springfield Park premises on Saturday, 17 August.

Tanya Fleischer, marketing manager, said the Durban and Coast SPCA sees more than 13 000 homeless animals through their doors each year. Some animals were abandoned, unwanted, living on the streets and abused all while hungry, cold and frightened.

“We want animal lovers to experience what it is like to be in a kennel. Who is up for the challenge of leaving your nice comfy bed and roughing it for the plight of homeless animals? We need your support to continue giving homeless animals a safe and warm place while they wait for their second chance at life,” said Flerishcher.

Entries are open. Get your ticket on Quicket for R200 and and R50 per dog.

“Participants will also be given the opportunity to ask their family and friends to sponsor their ‘adoption’ set at a minimum target of R3000. You must be fit and able to endure a night sleeping in a cold kennel and your entry will include dinner, fun games and a gift.

“All dogs entering will need a proof of vaccination certificate or alternatively participants can make a R1000 donation to sleep in the kennels with one of the SPCA puppies that would be allocated by the adoptions team,” said Fleischer.

She said entrants are reminded that it will be compulsory for them to have a profile for sponsorships on the SPCA website and details will be emailed to them after signing up

Guests are welcome to visit the participants between 4pm and 6pm. For more info contact the SPCA on 031-579-500 or visit the website www.spcadbn.org.za.
