In honor of Women’s Month, The Ridge@Shallcross has embarked on a drive to collect female menstrual products and other sanitary items to support period equity within the community.
Globally, period poverty severely impacts a number of young girls lives and this is especially true across communities in South Africa where affordability has become a barrier for menstrual products. The lack of access to period products causes increased absenteeism amongst girl learners at school and lowers their self- esteem and confidence.
In an effort to end the stigma around period poverty, we are appealing to our customers, and various organizations that would like to get involved in this initiative, to contribute by purchasing one or more of the period equity items listed below.
Purchases can be dropped off at our collection points, located at selected stores or at the promotional courts located at the Ridge.
The equity pack list:
- 1 x Sanitary pad pack
- 1 x Vaseline
- 1 x Wet wipe
- 1 x Sanitizer
- 1 x Hand cream
- 1 x Soap
- 1 x Face cloth
- 1 x Roll on
- 1 x Shaving blade
- 1 x Toothpaste
- 1 x Toothbrush
These equity packs will be assembled and distributed to young girls at various schools and communities in the area.
