Residents in Mawothi made a gruesome discovery on Thursday, 11 April, when doing a wellness check on a traditional healer only to find the decomposing body of the 53-year-old hanging in his home.
Prem Balram, head of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), said a resident contacted their offices at 2.24pm after making the discovery.
“Members were immediately dispatched and found a crowd gathered outside the house. Upon investigation, an extensively decomposed body was located hanging by a rope tied to a wooden rafter. The house and a kitchen next to the main building were ransacked. A window leading to the house was broken and burglar bars were forced in,” said Balram.
According to residents, the deceased was last seen alive over two weeks ago. “Investigations will be conducted to establish if the victim was murdered or committed suicide,” said Balram.
