Durban North resident and entrepreneur, Kelly Downrowski

Entrepreneur, Kelly Dobrowsky is a woman who aims to take the world by storm with her go-getting attitude and business know-how.

Dobrowski started her own company ‘Go Media’ while completing her degree and has almost doubled her client base during the Covid-19 pandemic. “The company started as a hobby. I never thought I could run a company and certainly did not think it was possible while studying! I started off offering my services for free to gain experience and ‘know how’. From there we have grown exponentially,” said Dobrowski. The Durban North resident said her mentor is the founder of the Robinhood Foundation, Cindy Norcott, who took the young entrepreneur under her wing as her business coach. She is also inspired by successful women in business, industry-related audio books, her husband Jonty Dobrowsky and her dogs.

She said that the biggest challenges that she had to overcome was being a young woman in business and not being taken seriously. Dobrowski overcame this by attending networking events and business retreats. “I was always the youngest by a long shot but to be honest, I feel it gave me a huge point of difference and has helped me to stand out. I would like to, one day, write a book titled ‘Warrior Women in Business’ where I will highlight some of the greats in my generation and their secrets to success. My name also just happens to mean ‘Warrior Woman’. I have also recently started a ‘Creative Council’ where a group of like-minded entrepreneurial and creative businesswomen meet once a month to share knowledge and referrals to help each other grow.” Dowbrowski’s advised anyone looking to start their own business is to always stay resilient. “Rome wasn’t built in a day, and just when you think it is time to give up success is around the corner. Entrepreneurship is a rollercoaster ride of good and bad days, take them as they come. A strong support system is imperative for your wellbeing and success. It is a lonely road if you do it on your own, and lastly get a coach, you need someone to bounce ideas off and give you years’ worth of experience,” she said.
