Ward 24 residents are demanding urgent intervention from the eThekwini Municipality as worsening service delivery continues to disrupt daily life.
Among the biggest concerns is the deteriorating state of the ablution facilities at the local transit camp, where rusted container toilets and leaking water pipes have left residents living in unhygienic conditions.
The concerns were raised during an oversight visit by Democratic Alliance Human Settlements Chief Whip Zamani Khuzwayo.

Community member Andiswa Sodidi said refuse collection has become a major problem, with residents no longer receiving refuse bags from the municipality.
“As a result, many residents are forced to burn their rubbish just to keep the area clean. This poses a serious health risk, especially to children who play nearby. Uncollected waste also spills onto the roads, making our already narrow streets difficult to access,” she said.
Resident Andile Msomi claimed municipal refuse trucks do not service the Mathinini community, alleging that collections end at Extension 1 in Chesterville.

He called on the municipality to deploy additional refuse collection trucks and increase the number of collection days to ensure every section of Ward 24 receives regular waste removal services.
Residents said they hope the municipality will act swiftly to address the long-standing service delivery failures before conditions deteriorate even further.
