Summer has been officially activated by the Umdoni Municipality with a beach-side launch of their festive season programme.
Boasting a miniature golf course, the launch of the festive season was near the cool waters of Scottburgh Beach which was ideal to welcome the festive season. Umdoni Mayor, Sibongile Khathi, addressed the public, urging them that while they enjoy all festivities associated with this holiday season, each person must enjoy responsibly and must bear in mind that Covid-19 is still a threat to our lives.
She said Umdoni was the place to be this summer as they now have two Blue Flag Pilot Status beaches, namely Pennington and Rocky Bay Beaches. “We are also committed to ensuring a fun-filled beach experience by expediting swift renovations of the pool with the municipality’s management,” Mayor Khathi said. The launch had drawn in a few spectators who enjoyed looking at the marine life displays while others enjoyed the edutainment programme on offer. One of the highlights of the day was the Shark Dissection by the KZN Sharks Board which kept spectators glued to the presentation.

“Our Billy the Bin was visible and reminded all about keeping our beaches and environment clean,” the Municipality said. Umdoni partnered with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, KZN Sharks Board, KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Ugu South Coast Tourism, Ugu District Municipality, Oceans Alive, All Sorts, Scottburgh Beach Super Tube, Blue Marlin Hotel and Umdoni Community Radio for the event.
“We wish all residents and holiday makers a happy and safe festive season in Umdoni. Let us remember to abide by the rules and refrain from engaging in activities that are against the law,” said Mayor Khathi.
