The Chatsworth community is in mourning following the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Tashir Thaku, as grief deepens and tributes continue to pour in across social media.
Thaku, a father of two and healthcare practice manager, was shot multiple times in the abdomen during a brazen attack on Chatsworth Main Road in Umhlatuzana last week.
Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics were called to the scene and worked urgently to stabilise the critically injured man. ALS spokesperson Garrith Jamieson confirmed that the patient remained in a critical condition as paramedics provided emergency care.
Amawele Emergency Services arrived on scene within minutes of the shooting. The owner of Amawele Emergency Services, along with spokesperson Sivan Subramodey, reported that their teams found the victim with abdominal gunshot wounds and immediately requested ALS assistance. Multiple response vehicles attended the scene.

Netcare 911 Aero Medical was activated and Thaku was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency care.
Despite the swift and coordinated emergency response, Thaku later succumbed to his injuries. Bayview police are investigating a case of murder and confirmed that the motive for the murder remained unclear at the time. Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have yet been made.
Thaku’s death has sent shockwaves through the community, particularly amid alleged reports that there had been multiple prior attempts on his life.
Born on 27 October 1982, Thaku was the grandson of the well-known Gokul family, son of Krish and Pravisha Thaku, and brother to Viash and Ektha. He was also a devoted father to his two children, Nihar and Zarna. He was formerly of Gokul Road in Isipingo Rail and had been part of the Class of 2000 at Isipingo
