Three suspects aged between 28 and 40 appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 9 September for being in unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, around midday by the Phoenix Tactical Response Team who were conducting crime prevention duties. Provincial Police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala said the police officers spotted a vehicle with three occupants travelling on the N3 in the Berea policing area and requested to search it. “Upon searching the suspects, a 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition was found under the driver’s seat. When the suspects were questioned about the firearm, they denied that the firearm belonged to them. The suspects will be profiled to check if they are linked to other serious cases opened in Durban and surrounding areas,” said Gwala.
