Remote Monitoring and Control (RMC) from Pietermarizburg will be assessing if there are any further damages caused to the water plant in Observation Hill, after a devastating wild-fire ripped through a farm and entered the property of the reservoir, destroying electrical cables in its wake.
Jabulani Mkhonza, communication manager of uThukela District Municipality said that the fire was pushed along by strong winds and it was said that it was not possible to stop the fire from spreading. “As a result we were unable to pump water as normal and that’s where we experienced unplanned water cuts in Observation Hill and surrounding areas. The situation is now under control. Water levels have picked up very well and so far there have been no complaints.”
Mkhonza said that due to the damages done the team will be doing inspections of the damaged site and the cables.
