Sydenham police are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the relatives of a baby boy who was found abandoned in Clare Estate earlier this year.
According to Sergeant Simo Jili, members of the SAPS Sydenham Social Crime Prevention Unit were called to the Clare Estate Clinic on Wednesday, 25 February, at approximately 7:20am after a community member discovered the infant near the Clare Road bridge.
Jili said the child, believed to have been about five months old at the time, was found abandoned with no immediate information available regarding his identity or the whereabouts of his parents or guardian.
“An African baby boy believed to be about five months old at the time was found abandoned with no immediate information available regarding his identity or the whereabouts of his parents or guardian,” said Jili.
Sydenham SAPS has since launched an investigation and is urging anyone with information that could assist in locating the child’s family to come forward.
