Suspect apprehended following alleged bestiality incident in Clayfield

An alleged bestiality suspect was apprehended and handed over to Phoenix SAPS after distressing sounds from an animal were investigated and the suspect was caught in the act of suspected animal abuse in Clayfield on Tuesday, 6 January 2026.

KZN VIP was dispatched after receiving information from a concerned resident who reported suspicious behaviour involving a man who had taken a dog to the rear of a building. Spokesperson for KZN VIP, Gareth Naidoo, said the caller further reported distressing sounds, prompting an immediate response.

“Upon arrival, KZN VIP officers proceeded to the back of the premises where they located a male suspect with his clothing partially removed and items believed to be linked to the incident in his possession. The dog involved managed to flee the scene prior to officers’ intervention.

“The South African Police Service (SAPS) was immediately notified and responded to the scene. The suspect was detained by KZN VIP officers and handed over to SAPS for further investigation and processing,” Naidoo added.

“KZN VIP strongly condemns all forms of animal abuse and commends the vigilance of community members who continue to report criminal activity. Public co-operation remains vital in ensuring safer communities,” said Naidoo.
