Support lifesaving SPCA outreach this Mandela Day

The Kloof and Highway SPCA is calling on the community to make every Mandela Day donation count by supporting its Outreach Clinic programme, which provides lifesaving veterinary care to animals in underserved communities.

The appeal comes after the organisation’s Annual General Meeting on 1 July, where members were informed that the SPCA had received a clean audit, with its financial statements receiving an unqualified report from external auditors. The organisation also reflected on another busy year of protecting animals across the Upper Highway area.
During the 2025/26 financial year, the SPCA admitted 6,847 animals, sterilised 1,762 animals, treated 5,957 animals through its clinic, investigated 833 cruelty cases and issued 1,328 warnings.

However, the organisation said none of this work would have been possible without the unwavering support of donors, volunteers, trusts, bequests, staff and the wider community.
This Mandela Month, from 1 to 18 July, the Kloof and Highway SPCA is raising vital funds for its Outreach Clinic programme, which delivers veterinary treatment, sterilisations, education and animal welfare services to communities where they are needed most.
Donations received during the campaign will help sustain outreach clinics throughout the year, ensuring more animals receive essential care while supporting responsible pet ownership.

The SPCA said every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. A donation of R50 helps provide parasite treatment, R100 feeds a dog or cat for a week, R200 assists with medication and surgical supplies, while R500 covers the cost of sterilising one animal.
Barbra Patrick fof the SPCA said; ”None of our vital work would be possible without the continued support of our community.”

Those wishing to make their 67 minutes count can donate dog and cat food, blankets and treats. Donations can be dropped off at the Durban & Coast SPCA, 2 Willowfield Crescent, Springfield Park, on Friday, 17 July, from 9am to 3pm, and on Saturday, 18 July, from 8am to noon.
