The St Chads community of Beyond 2000 are in a state of shock and disbelief after a woman was found dead in a local knee-deep spruit on Thursday afternoon, 10 March.
It is reported that cattle herders in the area had seen the woman laying face-down in the water and immediately called for nearby residents to help lift her from the water. KZNEMS was called, however, the woman was declared dead at the scene. Close friends and family, who live nearby, came to the spruit’s edge and wept as they told police that they didn’t understand what had happened.
Police have opened an inquest and told The Ladysmith Herald that a post-mortem needs to be done to determine the cause of death. At the time of publication, the woman was not officially identified.
