In a move to inspire young minds and promote literacy, the Sibaya Community Trust has donated 800 copies of Vuka Tshabalala on Trial to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education’s Education Library, Information and Technology Services (ELITS) division.
The book chronicles the extraordinary life of Judge Vuka Tshabalala, South Africa’s first Black Judge President. His story is one of resilience, courage, and determination—rising above the challenges of apartheid to break barriers in the country’s legal system.
According to Sibaya Community Trust trustee, Sorisha Naidoo, the books will be distributed to high school libraries across KwaZulu-Natal, giving learners access to a powerful story of leadership, justice, and perseverance.
“Sibaya Community Trust has long been a champion of educational development and continues to support initiatives that empower young people through knowledge,” Naidoo said. “We believe that telling our own stories and highlighting South African role models can deeply inspire learners to reach for greatness.”
The Department of Education welcomed the donation, noting its value in expanding reading resources in schools while also reminding learners of the strength found in their own communities and history.
This contribution underscores the importance of storytelling in shaping future leaders and building a nation rooted in dignity, equality, and justice.
