ML Sultan Primary School’s Grade 7 learners and educators re-wrote the history books by launching the first of many robotics and coding classes. The launch of the ‘new high-tech’ classes will be taught by educator Kaveer Bihaspat, who recently qualified in the programme.
The launch was held at ML Sultan Primary School’s library and various guests and the selected group of Grade 7 learners could not wait to get tech-savvy. Principal Donna Iyer welcomed guests at the mini-launch and ribbon-cutting ceremony. “We at ML Sultan Primary School are striving for brighter, better and more tech-savvy learners and with this new programme, which was introduced by Deputy Chief Education Specialist for coding and robotics, Nokuthula Madondo, we will be able to better equip our Grade 7 learners and when they head out to high school, they will already have the knowledge and power to connect with those classes given,” said Principal Iyer. Deputy Chief Education Specialist for coding and robotics, Nokuthula Madondo, told The Ladysmith Herald that she is extremely excited about this programme being introduced to ML Sultan and knows that they will take this new chapter in learning and make it their own. SGB Chairperson for ML Sultan Primary School, Peter Mabaso, said that he is proud of the school and the way they are working to ensure that children who go to ML Sultan receive the best in giving these learners a better, brighter future.
“The thing about this is that learners can learn from here, then continue at high school and from there they can also seek a career in this,” said Mabasa. Among the group of guests was Vodacom relationship builder and field specialist, Blessed Simelane. Simelane explained to The Ladysmith Herald that this new course that is being offered can only open many doors. “By being invited, I’m able to see how Vodacom can assist the school.” Grade 7 learners were excited to get started on getting to work on the laptops and told The Ladysmith Herald that they can’t wait to get started with their lessons.
