Alfred Duma Municipal Rescue officials, ER24 paramedics and Dave’s Panel Beaters with the assistance of SAPS and N3TC worked tirelessly for over two hours to free a driver who was trapped in a wreckage along the N3, Northbound towards the Bergville Plaza, on Wednesday, 2 November.
It is alleged that the driver of the delivery van had crashed into the back of a truck. The truck driver had only noticed something was wrong with his cargo trailer when he felt his back wheels dragging. The driver told police that he immediately stopped and then noticed the delivery van. The vehicle had completely lodged itself beneath the truck, entrapping the driver. Emergency officials were called to the scene and, working against the clock, officials had to find a safe and quick way to remove the driver who had sustained serious injuries.
With the Jaws of Life, Alfred Duma Municipal Rescue officials managed to only partially free the motorist. Dave’s Panel Beaters then had to hook up the vehicle and with the assistance of the truck, pull the wreckage apart. “This was a very difficult rescue, but with the help of all on the scene, we managed to free him,” said officials. The driver was stabilised and immediately rushed to the hospital for further medical treatment. The cause of the crash is being investigated by police.
