The kiddies corner at the Redhill Clinic has gotten a colourful revamp thanks to the remarkable efforts of the SAPS Greenwood Park CPF Youth Desk.
Over 30 volunteers got their hands messy and let their inner child come out to play as they painted and drew murals bursting with bright colours in the waiting room of the kid’s area as well as in two paediatric rooms. SAPS Greenwood Park CPF Youth Desk chairperson Ashlin Ellan said: “This was our Mandela Day initiative, the idea was to give back to our community and leave a lasting imprint for our future generations. The atmosphere was overwhelming with excitement, there was so much of colour, communication and team work among the volunteers.”
According to Ellan, the clinic is one of the major strongholds in the community that ensures that no resident is left without adequate healthcare. He said the intention of the project was aimed at creating a positive and uplifting environment for the children in the clinics care who are not well.
Youth Desk exco member and Miss India SA Finalist Sapna Kissoon said the project was one close to her heart as she believes that charity always begins at home.
She said: “Being a part of the Effingham community, it is essential to start with my community in lending out a helping hand. People may say that ‘one person cannot make a difference’, however I believe one mindset can. If each individual has the same positive mind-set and they form a group, positive change will prosper. The Mandela Day initiative shows an excellent example of the prosperity of positive change through the volunteers that were present at the Redhill Clinic. Additionally, putting a smile and fascination on the children’s faces and creating a warm and comfortable environment is why such an initiative is of great importance. On the other hand, the children are the future. Therefore, they are special and should be treated as such.”
Vounteer and community member Kovash Chetty added, “Being part of this initiative was extremely exciting and fulfilling as well.”
