A Chinese national is expected to appear in court after she was arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe a police officer following a reckless driving incident on Durban’s M4 freeway.

According to Durban Metro Police, members of the Strike Team spotted the vehicle being driven recklessly and attempted to stop it. However, the driver allegedly failed to pull over until officers managed to safely intercept the vehicle.

Upon investigation, officers discovered that the woman was allegedly driving without a valid driver’s licence.

Police further alleged that the suspect then attempted to offer cash to one of the officers in an effort to avoid being arrested.

She was subsequently detained at Durban Central SAPS and faces charges of reckless and negligent driving, driving without a valid driver’s licence, as well as attempting to bribe a law enforcement officer.

Durban Metro Police said the municipality maintains a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and reckless driving on the city’s roads.
