Ramaphosa assesses the state of Durban Port

President Cyril Ramaphosa, together with a delegation of ministers and KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sihle Zikalala visited the Transnet National Ports Authority on Thursday, 15 April, for an oversight visit to the Port of Durban to assess progress in enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of the port. 

Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, and the mayor of  eThekwini, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda were part of the delegation. The President toured the port precinct to assess the status of key infrastructure projects and decongestion initiatives. The aim of his visit was to establish the status of the port, as it is a global shipping hub and has the largest freight volumes in the country. The security at the event was very tight as there was a high police visibility to ensure the safety of the head of state.

All Covid protocols were followed.
