The uMhlanga Business Network (UBN), in partnership with the eThekwini Municipality and other businesses and stakeholders, recently launched the R100 million ‘Gateway to Innovation in Philanthropy’ initiative, with the goal to socially and economically transform eThekwini. The launch took place at the Mount Edgecombe Country Club on Friday, 21 February.
The event provided an interactive platform for networking, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing, ensuring that businesses are well-positioned to leverage municipal opportunities while contributing to sustainable social impact.
The eThekwini Municipality’s city manager, Musa Mbhele, presented a roadmap highlighting investment opportunities, economic revitalisation strategies, and initiatives aimed at creating a thriving commercial environment in Durban.
UBN President, Dr. Suren Lutchminarayan; and vice presidents, Ashok Sewnarain and Ravin Rajoo, said they were excited to be at the forefront of bridging business, innovation, and social impact. They said: “This initiative will not only transform philanthropy but also create meaningful partnerships between businesses and nonprofits to drive economic and social change. We’re committed to driving sustainable business and social development.”
The initiative is designed to empower non-profit organisations through innovative funding models, technology-driven solutions, and capacity-building programs. Developed in collaboration with UBN, REGENT Business School, and leading philanthropic partners, this initiative aims to revolutionise the non-profit sector by fostering sustainability, governance excellence, and digital transformation.
