With a deep-rooted love for animals and community, the Beachwood Country Club (BCC) has got the ball rolling for their fundraising golf day in support of the Kloof and Highway SPCA this November.
According to owners, Simon Draycott and Rebecca Prosser, the BCC received an incredible amount of support since lockdown level two was announced and thus decided it was time to plough back into the community with all proceeds from the day donated to the deserving animals of the Kloof and Highway SPCA.
“We love animals and wanted to give back to the community. We have asked many people for their input on how to do this and every single one of them responded with the SPCA. It’s the perfect time as we are nearing the festive season. Everyone that we spoke to was passionate about an animal project. It was our first choice as well, everyone’s input just cemented it for us,” explained Draycott.
The BCC spokesperson, Ilza Oosthuizen, said the event will be a full golf day with a 4-Ball Better Ball Scramble. The cost for golfers to play on the day will be R1 000 a team which would include prizes. Corporate branding is also available at each of the 18 holes. In return of sponsoring a Tee-Box with a minimum R1 000, they are offering product promotion and corporate branding at the sponsored green/tee in accordance with club regulations.
“The Kloof and Highway SPCA will never turn an animal away, whether it’s a doggie, a kitty, a donkey, goat or sheep. They are always there for any deserted animal in distress. With the Covid-19 pandemic, everyone has faced difficulties. Non-profit organisations like the SPCA were hit very hard,” said Oosthuizen.
“On 26 November, all golfers as well as the community can come to the club and make donations to the Kloof and Highway SPCA. Donations of any second-hand items including clothing, household goods and furniture are welcome. This will be gratefully appreciated as these items are sold at all the Kloof and Highway SPCA thrift shops on the premises to generate the much-needed income,” she added.
Oosthuizen said the public is also welcome to commit to signing monthly debit orders and kennel sponsorships, become a volunteer, as well as donate dog and cat food in the large and small containers displayed. “It’s a community coming together. Not very often you see community coming together on common ground, however, everyone loves animals. It’s not really a golf day per se, the golf day is the offshoot of getting people down here, they can bring their family and pets and engage with one another and have an incredible time with their family,” added Draycott.
Passionate supporter of the Kloof and Highway SPCA, Belinda Dolphin, explained that many animals taken in by the organisation are in desperate need of funds. “They have got so many animals in their care and especially now with the festive season, people abandon their animals and pick up strays,” she said.
“We are inviting the entire public to come out here, they can bring their doggies and come and have lunch and have fun, it’s a completely open day for everyone. It’s more than a golf day, we want the community to come together to say we love and care for animals,” said Oosthuizen.
