This year non-profit organisation, Chic Mamas Do Care Durban team, has focused on upgrading the classroom facilities for the young learners of Umzamo Daycare Centre.
The funds to give the facelift to Umzamo Daycare Centre were from proceeds generated through the sale of quality pre-loved clothing at their boutique-style shop in Westville. With the funds the team was able to purchase a 12 metre converted container classroom to replace a dilapidated wooden cabin.
Dawn Currie of Chic Mamas said not only does the new classroom provide a bigger and safer environment for the children to learn in, but awnings and a well-planned outside play area have ensured that the children have all-weather outdoor fun whilst developing key motor skills. “Play equipment like a new jungle gym was also installed,” she said.
Last week, some of the Chic Mamas team put the finishing touches to a joyful mural that was sponsored by Capitec and will add daily delight for the pre-schoolers. Jenny Du Bois, Chic Mamas Durban team Co-ordinator, said: “It is through our huge-hearted supporters that funds for the new container were raised. A value equivalent to proceeds from the sale of 540 donated garments.”
Natalie Maccallum, Chic Mamas Westville Shop Manager, said they would like to encourage the Highway community to enjoy a unique Chic Mamas shopping experience at their store at 2 Cedar Road Westville. The store opens from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, and on Saturdays, from 10am to 1pm. She said the Chic Mamas team has a number of significant projects planned going forward and are appealing to the Highway community to donate quality pre-loved clothing to the store.
