Ethekwini Municipality has announced a planned shutdown to carry out strategic tie-ins into the existing 500 mm Aberdare Drive Phoenix Industrial Park reticulation pipeline. The planned shut will take place on Wednesday, 24 March at 5pm for a duration of 10 hours into Thursday morning, 25 March.
In a statement released on 23 March, the city said these tie-ins were necessary as sections of the new 500 mm steel pipeline along the new BRT route are required to be connected to the existing Aberdare reticulation outlet for the new GO Durban Project. The city said it will try its utmost to balance the system during this planned shutdown. However certain suburbs/ zones supplied from the Phoenix 3 reservoir will be affected by no water supply during the period of the shut.
The areas that will be affected by this outage is the water supply zones from the reticulation outlet of Phoenix 3 reservoir which include the Phoenix industrial park, Curnick Ndlovu Highway – Kwa Mashu highway, Bridge city Boulevard, Aberdare Drive Phoenix, Eastbury and Redfern areas.
The city apologised for the inconvenience caused as a result of the unavoidable outage and sincerely assures residents of its best intentions. Notice boards will be placed on all affected streets prior to the planned shutdown.
