A breakthrough has been made with the arrest of one suspect for the murder of 67-year-old, Rajanee Devi Rueben Murray, who was robbed and strangled during a home invasion, at Lawnhaven Place in Foresthaven, on 9 September.
The 21-year-old appeared at the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 September, facing charges of murder among others in relation to the incident that left the community shocked. Speaking to the Phoenix Tabloid, Councillor Moulana Mohamed Tariq, who has been assisting the family following the gruesome murder, commended the detectives of Phoenix SAPS for their speedy arrest in the matter at hand.
He said: “This incident has been heartbreaking as an elderly woman’s life was taken away in such a harsh manner. However, during this time it must be noted that it is crucial for the community to understand that images and information regarding incidents as such must not be posted on social media sites as it can sometimes affect an investigation.”
Public relations Officer for the Phoenix Community Police Forum, Mark Nadesen, said: “On behalf of the Phoenix CPF, we would like to congratulate SAPS, private security companies and all other parties who have played a vital role in the swift arrest of the suspect involved with this case.
