A serious collision between a taxi and a motor vehicle on the Higginson Highway near Mobeni Cemetery claimed the life of a woman while 20 others sustained various injuries, on Wednesday evening.
ALS Paramedics Medical Service responded to the scene and their spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, said on arrival paramedics found that a fully laden taxi and a light motor vehicle had collided before the taxi overturned coming to rest on its side.
“One person, a female believed to be in her 40s, was found to have sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do for her. She was declared deceased on the scene.”
He confirmed that the 20 other passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals for the further treatment that they required.
“At this stage the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however, SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further,” added Jamieson.
