Thirteen-year-old Mohammed Zaeem Khan was completely overwhelmed when local bikers and surrounding biker clubs gathered at Total Oasis in Murchison Street on Saturday, 27 November, to “rev up” funds to assist Mohammed with his leukaemia treatment. “I have no words, but my heart is so humbled and grateful,” said Mohammed. Pictured above are the bikers who revved up for Mohammed Zaeem Khan, 13, who was diagnosed with leukaemia.
Motorbikes, big and small, rolled, revved and “smoked it up” while making their way to Total Oasis as part of the fundraising rally. The community of Ladysmith also showed their support by visiting several food stalls and just showed their love to Mohammed and his family.
Mohammed was diagnosed with leukaemia in August and spent the last three months in Albert Luthi Hospital. “It has been a difficult, lonely journey for my son because of the Covid-19 restrictions; we could not be with him in hospital,” said Aaliyah Khan, who told The Ladysmith Herald that her son is a warrior. Aaliyah Khan said that her son is strong and with prayer, Mohammed has been able to fight and withstand most of the treatments. “We know and pray that Mohammed will overcome,” said Aaliyah.
Aaliyah added that she is so grateful for the support shown and thanked every single person and biker who showed up. Iqbal Khan, Mohammed’s grandfather, welcomed all at the event. “For the bikers, I would like to salute you all for giving hope to me and my family,” said Iqbal Khan. Biker Rix Manilal said that people generally have the wrong impression of the biker community, but that is usually not the case. “We are here to assist and show support to Mohammed and his family and we are happy to work together to make a difference.”
Bikers made their way throughout town, as they revved up to make some noise. Funds are still being collected for Mohammed and if anyone is interested or would like to donate towards this cause, please contact Iqbal Khan on 082-756-0736.
