One dead in R103 crash

One person was killed and three other sustained serious injuries in a single-motor vehicle collision along the R103 bypass. 

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by the Ladysmith Police, after one person was tragically killed and three others sustained serious injuries in a single-motor vehicle collision on Monday morning, 5 July.

Emergency services from ER24, KZNEMS, Public Safety and Okhahlamba Search and Rescue volunteer responded to the call, after a red VW Polo GTI veered off the road, crashing down a steep embankment along the R103 By-pass, just a kilometer from the Road Traffic Inspector base.

It is reported that the vehicle had been travelling from Embuzweni and was heading towards Roosboom, when tragedy struck. Emergency services worked on three passengers that were flung from the vehicle, while Public Safety had to utilise the jaws of life to cut free the entrapped driver from the vehicle. One of the passengers was declared dead on the scene, while the other seriously injured passengers and driver were stabilised and rushed to the Provincial hospital. The cause of the collision is unknown at this stage and further investigation needs to be done by police. The deceased has not yet been officially identified.
