While music is often considered to be the language of the heavens, one Welbedacht resident aims to share her love, passion and talent for singing the word of God through Gospel. Lindy Dlamini, a professional Gospel singer, recently sat on the couch with the Merebank & Chatsworth Tabloid to tell us more about her journey and how she hopes to make a difference through music.

Merebank & Chatsworth Tabloid (MCT): Who is Lindy Dlamini?
Lindy Dlamini (LD): I am a 36-year-old professional female artist who has devoted my life to sharing my voice and talent through gospel music.

MCT: Tell us about your alma mater.
LD: I am all about focusing on my talent and the outcome it brings and since I don’t come from such a wealthy background, I didn’t go far academically and had to drop out of school to go work.

MCT: How did your journey into Gospel music begin?
LD: My musical career took off from church, when I was a young girl, because I come from a family who believes that God exists.

MCT: Have you always been drawn towards Gospel music or do you engage in other music genres too?
LD: I give full dedication and determination to Gospel because I have a strong belief towards the Almighty and to spread his love and devotion to all who my music reaches.

MCT: What song do you draw inspiration from and why is it special to you?
LD: It all started by listening to Sfiso Ncwane since he has played the biggest part in my life through his music. His music has encouraged me to be strong and faithful, and to motivate others to be confident in their faith too.

MCT: Do you have any original songs yet?
LD: Yes I do, they are titled ‘Anginawo Amandla’ and ‘Vumekanjani’.

MCT: How do you hope to inspire people through your music?
LD: Through my music, I wish to send a solid message to the younger generation and also to people who weren’t given everything in their phase of childhood. I want to tell them that being born poor is never their fault, but dying poor is on their hands if they do not make the change they want to see.

MCT: If you could spend a day anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
LD: Eastern Cape, since it is where I grew up and it is a place where I recognised my gift of singing Gospel music. It is also where I could most likely change the way people view things about Gospel music and it would help me gain my exposure as a Gospel artist.

MCT: If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
LD: I would say that person would be Rebecca Malope because she’s another individual I know as charismatic and motivational through her music. I have also learnt a lot from her since they say ‘seeing is believing’. I enjoy listening to her soulful music and I can imagine how much of an honour it would be to share time with her.

MCT: What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
LD: I’ve always been told to be good and do good, by sticking to what I strongly believe in and also doing it out of love and passion, it will get me miles away.

MCT: What is the best dish you can cook?
LD: There’s a long list of things but I’m going to mention lasagne because it is absolutely delicious.

MCT: Do you have a role model that you look up to?
LD: Yes I do, it is none other than Sfiso Ncwane.

MCT: Tell us one fun fact that no one knows about you.
LD: I used to laugh at my mother as a child when she mentioned anything related to God because I honestly thought it was a fairytale until I started becoming more in tune with my faith. Who would have thought that the girl who laughed at these stories would now be the one to share her gift and love for the gospel? It is truly awesome and all through God’s work; I believe everything happens for a reason.

MCT: Do you play any instruments?
LD: I never taught myself to play any kind of instruments because it has always been me and the microphone. There is no greater instrument than one’s voice.

MCT: How can people follow you on social media?
LD: I’m available on Facebook as ‘Lindy Dlamini’ for bookings.
