Non-governmental organisation (NGO), Hands of Justice, is appealing to the community of Amanzintoti and surrounding areas for assistance in carrying out their next initiative called Ladies L.E.A.D Conference and Expo ahead of International Women’s Day on 9 August.

The initiative, that was proposed last year, is aimed towards a celebration of female ingenuity by creating a platform for ladies from all walks of life and industries to share their story and personal journey, in the hopes of inspiring other women to tap into their own creativity and, by extension, their ingenuity.

Starting his organisation in August 2022, Hussain Adam, Hands of Justice CEO and founder, said that with gender-based violence becoming increasingly prevalent in communities, their objective is to create a safe place and support system for these victims, providing both mental and physical support.

He said: “We have hopes that the commencement of this initiative will help us raise funds by all means possible, whether it be through sponsorship, donations or joining hands with other organisations from all walks of life. The Hands of Justice organisation is there to assist all despite their colour, creed or religion and we look forward to working with others who have the same core values.

“We will also have only female vendors at the expo with an extremely low presence of male staff, volunteers, kitchen staff, waiters and security, and of course, our Comedian Senzo of the Dingalings in an attempt to create a safe space for women on the day.”

With the sole objective of the organisation being to benefit impoverished communities through targeted community development, the organisation currently has several poverty relief and outreach programmes in areas such as Welbedacht, Phoenix, Amanzintoti and Gauteng, and have introduced feeding kitchens in Welbedacht and central Durban.

“With the aftermath of the recent tornado we have also arranged for disaster relief which includes not only a feeding scheme but also the distribution of clothing, toys and more to assist the people who were affected by this unfortunate event. Our mobile community kitchens and full bakery are fully fitted and stocked.

“We would love to eventually distribute 3 000 loaves of bread a day to the communities facing food insecurity across the Durban region. We will be fundraising for our community kitchens and bakery to help Durban communities and also highlighting and honouring women in Palestine and the daily struggles that they face,” said Adam.
