The Newcastle Clinic joined in the National Nutrition Week 2018, last week Friday. The Nutrition week took place from 9 October until 15 October.

A 2016 study by the South African Demographic and Health Survey, has shown that 68% of women and 31% of men, in the country are obese, while an estimate of 13% of children younger than the age of five years, are overweight or obese. In encouraging healthy diets, the Newcastle Clinic advised its patients to live more healthier and active lifestyles.

Newcastle Clinic Acting Operational Manager, Mr. Khuzwayo, said they want their patients to understand the importance of keeping healthy, “a good diet plays a great deal in anyone’s life.”

“A good diet and eating healthy, means some sicknesses won’t easily affect you. Your immune system will be healthy.

“We encourage people to grow their own plants, make a door-size garden, it will be easy to maintain and it can last you for about five years. “Growing your own vegetables means you are getting the best nutrients in your body, without any of it being processed. “We urge everyone to be more aware of their health.”The aim of National Nutrition Week is to communicate, educate and mobilize communities to empower and encourage behavioural changes in individuals and families, and to encourage everyone to make life-changing decisions on healthy diets and physical activity.
