Thousands of vulnerable children and families in the Western Cape are set to receive essential meals more swiftly and efficiently, thanks to a significant donation to the Mustadafin Foundation. The Durban-based South African Muslim Charitable Trust (SAMCT) has generously provided a brand-new delivery truck, a crucial asset that will bolster the foundation’s extensive food relief programmes.

The official handover, which took place recently, marks a pivotal moment for Mustadafin, an organisation that dished out a remarkable 8,847,470 meals in 2024 alone – an astounding average of 27,910 meals every week. This new vehicle will directly address the growing logistical challenges faced by the foundation in transporting vital food supplies to under-resourced schools and communities across the province.

“Our food programmes support thousands of children who rely on daily nutrition for cognitive development, school performance, and overall wellbeing,” explained Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, Director of the Mustadafin Foundation. “Without access to proper nutrition, these children are at a major disadvantage. The new vehicle will significantly ease the logistical challenges we’ve faced in delivering meals to schools and communities. We are incredibly grateful for SAMCT’s generous support.”

Faried Boltman of SAMCT underscored the importance of this partnership, stating, “This is an organisation deeply committed to serving children healthy, nutritious meals daily – supporting their physical and mental development. We are pleased to be able to partner with Mustadafin, enabling them to more effectively serve widespread communities and deliver major relief efforts for many under-resourced communities.”

Beyond its comprehensive food relief initiatives, the Mustadafin Foundation also extends its compassion through a crucial winter outreach programme, providing warm meals, blankets, and clothing to approximately 4,000 people during the coldest months. Currently, the foundation is diligently preparing for Eidul Adha, an annual effort to bring smiles and hope to those in need.
