
Angelique Taai of the Rhythm-DHS CC broke a new batting record for KZN Women’s Cricket of 229 innings not out with only 111 balls, while playing against the Crusaders CC at Danville Park on Sunday, 21 November.
The powerful batting star helped her team reach 328/1 in their allotted 30 overs for the Rhythm-DHS CC.
She hit 32 fours and 13 sixes while playing against the Crusaders CC. Taai has also become the first person to score a double century in any women’s cricket club match.
Former KZN provincial batter, Asheta Mahabeer, who is also now the Rhythm-DHS captain, shared an unbroken second wicket partnership with teammate Taai of 275 which the Captain Mahabeer made 28 not out.
There were 69 extras conceded by Crusaders in the Rhythm-DHS innings. Taai, who is a King William’s Town born cricket superstar and a former Proteas Women’s team all-rounder, is currently working at the KZN Cricket Union.
She coaches the Provincial Women’s and Girls’ U19 teams. Taai has played for years on the Cricket South Africa Women’s Interprovincial Series.
The Crusaders were unfortunately bowled out for 74 in 23.5 overs, with Taai contributing with the ball by taking 4 wickets for 4 runs. The 328/1 remains as the new KZN Club Cricket record.
