Dumisani Mabovana who has been missing for over two weeks

After telling his roommate he was going to meet a girl who he had met online, Dumisani Mabovana’s family are now fearing the worse about his whereabouts as the 35-year-old Shakas Head resident hasn’t been heard from or seen since Sunday, 26 September.

Mabovana’s sister-in-law, Vuiceka Ndzonya, said they began to grow concerned when they noticed he wasn’t around the house and nobody knew where he was. “It’s not like him to leave for so long and not say anything. He always tells us if he’s going somewhere. He didn’t even tell us he was seeing someone. Nobody in the family met her or knows she exists.” According to his roommate, Mabovana had been speaking to this girl for some and they had agreed to meet that day. “When he didn’t answer both his phones and wasn’t showing ‘online’ on WhatsApp we got even more worried. We then went to the police and opened a missing persons report. We also flooded social media with his pictures and information about him asking anyone with any information to come forward.”

Ndzonya said an Uber driver who saw the social media posts told them he picked up Mabovana who told him to leave him under the Umdloti bridge, on the N2, and that was the last time he was seen. Another concern for the family was when Mabovana’s boss called the family saying he did not show up for work. “Literally nobody knows where he could be. Nobody has made contact with him and nobody has come forward to say they know where he is. As the family we are heartbroken and left with little options. We hope the police make a breakthrough in their investigation. We want him home safe. We’re all taking this hard. Even if we just find out where he is or the police can give us some kind of answer it will ease the pain of how we feel now,” said Ndzonya. The matter was reported to the South African Police Service in Umhlali. Detective Mfunwa, who is allegedly the officer investigating the case, could not be reached for comment. “We just need to know that he is okay and where he is or if anybody has seen him somewhere. We are appealing for help in finding Dumisani.” If you have information on his whereabouts please call 078-902-3930 or CrimeStop on 08600-10111.
