Pinetown SAPS and community stakeholders recently held a motorcade in the Pinetown CBD with the aim to create crime awareness in the area and also increase police visibility.
Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Captain Bongumusa Manqele, said police partnered with the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, eThekwini Municipality Safer cities, Community participation, the Community Police Forum and private security companies in an effort to educate the community about crimes such as armed robbery, theft out of motor vehicle, cybercrime and others that become prevalent during this time of the year. “The motorcade started at Glenugie Park and proceeded to New Germany, and back to the taxi rank. Members handed out pamphlets containing crime awareness tips to the public. Awareness was also created amongst motorists requesting them to be vigilant when approaching intersections and traffic lights and to ensure that their windows are closed properly and doors locked as overlooking this safety measure would make them victims of crime. “This campaign is part of the ongoing festive season awareness campaigns that police and stakeholders will be conducting,” Capt Manqele added. Capt Manqele thanked all stakeholders for making the day a success.
