The top 12 finalists of the Miss Port Edward Pageant recently took to the shores of the South Coast to do a clean-up as part of the pageant’s environmental campaign.
The young ladies kicked off their heels and put on their slippers for the clean-up programme where they got the chance to get their hands and their feet dirty. With only two months left before the big finale where the next Miss Port Edward will be crowned, the finalists will have a jam-packed schedule which will involve community-driven projects, clean-up campaigns, school visits and motivational talks. Pageant founder, Mimi Qatsi, said the contestants have various initiatives that each of them is involved in.
She said these initiatives will help to mould them into community leaders, women in business and future leaders of our country. “Miss Port Edward is not just a beauty pageant – it is a way for a young woman to find her ride of pass into the world. Miss Port Edward is all about setting a platform for youngsters to discover themselves and play a positive role in society. Teaching the young ladies about leadership is something that has been lacking in our society,” said Qatsi. The contestants are all fired up for the finale and each of the 12 hopefuls will be putting their best foot forward as they conclude the final round of the pageant. Sixteen-year-old Nolusizo Mbodlela said: “Being a finalist is a dream come true for me and for my fellow contestants. With each initiative that we are a part of, it helps to bring us closer together. There can be only one winner, but to us, we are all winners in our own right.” Qatsi said: “Our contestants have done incredibly well to have reached this stage in the competition. As the finale draws closer, I want to wish each of my girls all the best and may the best lady win.” The public can still vote for their favourite contestant at www.pageantvoteafrica.online and search for Miss Port Edward.
