To celebrate Nelson Mandela today, 18 July, the Nelson Mandela Community Youth Centre in Chatsworth is hosting a Health and Wellness Day from 09h00 to 13h00. Organised by Revolution Motorcycle Club, RK Khan Hospital and Pink Drive, the day is set to provide healthcare services to the community at no cost.
Clive Pillay of the youth centre said that this event is the perfect opportunity to learn about healthy habits and how to incorporate them into your daily routine.

“Health organisations around the world define health as your physical, mental and social well-being and as a resource for living a full life. Today, you can access a number of services provided by RK Khan Hospital including blood pressure and sugar screenings; HIV testing and counselling; mental health services; counselling from social workers; nutrition assessments; teenage pregnancy; termination of pregnancy; family planning and access to many other departments.
“On site are private medical practitioners, providing dental screenings; vision screenings; medical consultation and advice. Pink Drive is here to do breast cancer examinations and education. They will also do pap smears to check for cervical cancer and there is also a PSA for men to detect prostate cancer.
“In some severe cases, patients are referred to RK Khan Hospital if necessary. Organisations are also there to provide advice on drug and alcohol abuse; women abuse; yoga; taiji; circumcision and many other health benefits,” he said.
Pillay added that ‘community’ is central to helping people attain and maintain well-being and health. “As demonstrated during the pandemic, the environments in which we live, work and play, the connections we have to each other and to community resources are vital,” he said.
