Excitement is building as the 2026 school year prepares to kick off on Wednesday, 14 January, with pupils nationwide ready to return to classrooms for a fresh start filled with learning, laughter and new friendships.
At Merebank’s The Learning Centre (TLC), excitement and cheerful energy will fill the air as both new and returning pupils are warmly welcomed back for the start of the academic year. Smiling faces and eager chatter will reflect the joy of young learners ready to embark on new adventures in learning.
TLC principal Purusha Naidoo said the school is looking forward to another year of fun, growth and learning following a fruitful 2025.

“This year we focus on our motto, learning, laugh, lead, while continuing to provide a nurturing and safe environment where every pupil can excel in their own strengths, not only academically, but also through values and lifelong friendships,” said Naidoo.
Naidoo emphasised the importance of a strong partnership between home and school, noting that this collaboration lays the foundation for both academic excellence and character development. She encouraged pupils to remain curious and resilient throughout their educational journey, reminding them to be kind to their teachers and peers and to make every day count. Parents were also urged to prioritise daily attendance, punctuality and homework, highlighting how consistent effort contributes to long-term success.
Pupils were equally eager to share their excitement about returning to school.
“I am excited to go up to my Grade R class. I am a big boy now and I want to learn new things,” said Shreeyan Moodley.
“I am happy to be back at school because I can play with my friends and use the playdough my mummy bought for me,” said Samuel Govender, adding that he was excited to start the year.
Ara Govender said that she was excited to make many friends at school and learn new things, like sums.
