Tiny faces beamed with excitement and laughter filled the playground at Golden Future School in Bonela on Thursday, 23 July, as 267 preschool children proudly received brand-new tracksuits from Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital during a heartwarming Nelson Mandela Day Corporate Social Investment (CSI) outreach.
For the youngsters, aged between one and seven, it was more than just a new winter outfit. It was a gift of dignity, warmth and hope from a community that believes in their future.
The ordinary school day was transformed into a memorable celebration as learners, teachers and guests gathered to mark Nelson Mandela’s legacy through acts of kindness. One by one, the children excitedly collected their new tracksuits before eagerly opening their branded Tabloid Media drawstring bags to find a nutritious breakfast waiting inside.
The excitement was contagious as the children proudly showed off their gifts, laughed with friends and admired their matching tracksuits, while the school’s 11 teachers were each presented with warm jackets in recognition of their unwavering dedication to educating children from disadvantaged families.
Golden Future School, situated on the edge of the Cato Manor informal settlement, has become a beacon of hope for hundreds of children. Established in 1998 by the late Elizabeth Nhlumayo with just 25 learners, the preschool has grown into a safe haven where children are nurtured, educated and prepared for a brighter future despite the many challenges faced by their families.
Speaking at the event, Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital Marketing Manager Suraiya Vaizie said the initiative reflected the hospital’s belief that caring for communities extends far beyond providing medical treatment.
“Healthcare extends beyond the walls of our hospital. It is about uplifting communities, restoring dignity and creating hope where it is needed most. Every child deserves to feel seen, valued and celebrated.
“We wanted to give the children something they could keep and proudly wear. With winter upon us and the excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup, we decided to donate tracksuits in the school’s colours so they could become part of the learners’ school uniform,” said Vaizie.
School principal Cebisile Khanyile said the donation had brought immense joy to both the children and staff.
“We are incredibly grateful to Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital for choosing our school. The tracksuits perfectly match our school colours and, from this week, they will officially become part of our Friday school uniform. The children are so proud to wear them.
“We also want to thank Tabloid Media and everyone who partnered to make this day so special. We hope this relationship will continue for many years to come,” she said.
The initiative showed how partnerships can make a difference. Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital and Tabloid Media joined forces to support young children and honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy of selfless service.
As the celebrations came to an end, the children skipped home proudly carrying their branded bags and wearing bright smiles that spoke louder than words. They left with far more than tracksuits and breakfast—they left with renewed confidence, cherished memories and the comforting knowledge that their community cares.
On a chilly winter’s morning in Bonela, Nelson Mandela’s legacy was not remembered through speeches, but through 267 smiling children whose futures looked just a little brighter.
