Beach safety was recently highlighted during the festive season when there were some seaside fatalities and some close calls.

KZN Private Ambulance Service responded to the Glenmore Beach area for reports of a drowning on Tuesday. KZN Private Ambulance spokesperson, Craig Botha, said that when emergency services arrived, they found that two patients were being treated by NSRI Port Edward for near drowning.

Botha said: “According to witnesses, a 14-year-old child and adult got caught in a current and lifesavers rushed to their assistance. They managed to pull the patients to safety. Paramedics continued treating the patients for near drowning and transported the child to hospital for further care.”
