Several residential areas in and around Ladysmith have been without water for over four days and residents have been boiling water to clean and cook. To make matters worse, no water tankers have been dispatched to the affected areas by the uThukela Municipality.
Gustav Meyer, who resides in the Egerton area, told The Ladysmith Herald that he had to boil water to ensure his children were washed. “This is what we have been doing for the last few days, boiling water,” said Meyer. Meyer said he did not know why they have no water and that he has to make travel to friends or family to collect water. Councillor Abbas Warasally said that residents along Egerton Road, Hyde Park and Louis Botha are but just a few areas that have been affected. “I have called uThukela for the last four days to try to get answers and I have been told that the matter is being looked at by the engineer.” Other residents who are without water have also made calls to the centre, but have told The Ladysmith Herald that the phone just rings. District Municipality Communications Manager Jabulani Mkhonza was contacted for comment, but at the time of posting on line he had not responded.
