Varsity College celebrated Women’s Month with its annual “Ladies to Legends” event on Friday, 8 August, focusing on women’s empowerment and upliftment.
The event, themed “Ladies in Leadership,” centered on three key topics: building confidence, fostering connections, and taking risks. The programme featured a panel discussion with speakers from various fields, including entrepreneur and content creator Olwethu Msomi, candidate attorney Asmaa Omar, and Bachelor of Arts student Brenna Moeletsi. The discussion was moderated by East Coast Radio presenter Shaina Rae.
One of the panellists, Brenna, emphasised the importance of women supporting one another. She said: “We need to celebrate each other as women, and this event was meant for that reason. Today I learned a lot of things, including taking time for your people and appreciating every support you get.”
The panellists shared insights from their personal and professional journeys, offering inspiration and practical advice to the 39 female students in attendance. The interactive format encouraged students to engage directly with the panellists, creating a vibrant and empowering dialogue.
Owethu Sumayili, a Bachelor of Education student and attendee, said she always looks forward to the event as a good way to start Women’s Month. “The panellists were amazing, and I learned so much from both them and the topics that were discussed. Hearing the testimonies from each of the individual speaker about their personal and professional lives was my highlight today.”
